Are you looking to help keep North Carolina’s roadway clean and litter-free?
It’s almost time for the North Carolina Litter Sweep sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). The Litter Sweep is a program administered by the North Carolina Office of Beautification.
What is the Litter Sweep
- The Litter Sweep is a program to help keep North Carolina’s roadside free of litter. The program designates twice-a-year two-week windows where all of the state’s volunteers fan out across the state to help pick up litter and help keep the state’s highways free from litter.
- NCDOT maintenance crews devote one week of their time during each Litter Sweep to pick up litter and collect orange bags from the roadsides once the groups have completed their cleanups
- Volunteers can obtain supplies such as orange trash bags, gloves, and safety vests from their local NCDOT county maintenance office.
- Participants can receive a certificate of appreciation and may enter the Unusual Litter Contest for cash prizes offered through Keep North Carolina Beautiful.
When is the Litter Sweep for 2015?
The program has designated the last two weeks of April (April 18th to May 2nd) and the last two weeks of September (September 19th to October 3rd).
