What many people do not realize is that the core component of our business is actually litter removal.

Litter clean-up costs in the U.S. are an estimated $11.5 BILLION each year (Source: Keep America Beautiful). The Sponsor A Highway® Program has become a way for businesses and contractors to help each state offset some of the costs associated with litter removal across the country. Adopt A Highway Maintenance Corporation (AHMC) has partnered with state DOTs for over 25 years. Our work together has contributed to the removal of over 4.5 MILLION pounds of trash across the 22 states we do business.

For each sign sponsored, a portion of the proceeds pay AHMC crew members to clean up trash and debris along the 1-2 mile sponsored areas. In addition, all trash collected by AHMC crews is sorted at local recycling plants where it is then recycled, reduced, reused, or properly disposed of if it cannot be recycled.

The program helps the environment, it helps the communities, and it helps the state. Sponsors of the program are looked highly upon by DOT partners for their monthly contributions and the Sponsor A Highway® Program continues to grow due to this partnered success. However,

NONE OF THIS

Would be possible if it weren’t for AHMC’s truly dedicated crew members and supervisors.

This has been an extraordinary week for AHMC because we’re hosting our annual “Operations Safety Forum”, one of the many required safety and training programs that AHMC conducts throughout the year. This event in particular, is special because all 15 of our national supervisors have been joined together for two days of extensive safety training and development of fundamental safety skills set to prepare them and their crew members for the job ahead.

SAFETY cannot be neglected, ignored, mistreated, or conducted carelessly. This goes for supervisors, crew members, and even traveling motorists.

OUR Sponsor A Highway® crew members are the front of the line for the business. Not only are they the face of the company, but they put their lives at risk every day to keep our roadways clean so that others can travel safely without the danger of trash or debris.

“Safety does not happen by accident.”

Our supervisors are trained carefully and comprehensively to administer strict safety routines and thorough program training that will keep their crew members SAFE. Nothing is more important than a human life, and that’s a belief that everyone at Adopt A Highway Maintenance Corporation stands by.

The cleanliness of our roadways will always be a cause that our Sponsors and DOT partners take very seriously, but none take it more seriously than the Sponsor A Highway® supervisors and crew members. Their dedication and hard work is what keeps this program alive.

“As dedicated supervisors, we thank you with our deepest gratitude and appreciation for your commitment to keeping the lives of our crew members and the public we serve safe.

You are truly a magnificent part of our company foundation, and you deserve proper recognition for all that you do! Thank you from all of us.”

Memorable Safety Quotes by Some of Our Heroes:

Speaking with news anchor Katie Couric after the plane crash, Sullenberger said: “One way of looking at this might be that for 42 years, I’ve been making small, regular deposits in this bank of experience, education, and training. And on January 15, the balance was sufficient so that I could make a substantial withdrawal.” – Captain Chesley Sullenberger

“The way I describe this whole experience—and I haven’t had time to reflect on it sufficiently—is that everything I had done in my career had somehow been a preparation for that moment. There were probably some things that were more important than others or that applied more directly. But I felt like everything I’d done in some way contributed to the outcome” – Captain Chesley Sullenberger

“No one should have to sacrifice their life for their livelihood because a nation built on the dignity of work must provide safe working conditions for its people.” – Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez

“It’s better to lose one minute in life…than to lose life in a minute.”- Author Unknown

“Accidents, particularly street and highway accidents, do not happen – they are caused.” -Ernest Greenwood US Representative NY 1951-1953.
