Environmental

Intro

Did you know, 7 out of 10 of the United States’ most ozone-polluted cities are located in California (CleanAirDay, 2021)?  As Adopt A Highway takes the pledge for California’s Clean Air Day, there are many ways that individuals can also participate and do their part!

Adopt A Highway

Adopt A Highway Maintenance Corporation® (AHMC) has taken the pledge in California’s Clean Air Day initiative to join the effort to reduce the state’s carbon footprint.  By creating vanpools for field supervisors and implementing rotating schedules for employees to work remotely, AHMC has been able to greatly reduce vehicle emissions for its employees across the nation.

How To Do Your Part

There are plenty of ways that you can participate in California’s Clean Air Day initiative! Take a look at some of the ways you can do your part and build lifelong sustainable habits.

  1. Switch It Out

This can be something as simple as choosing to buy local produce, as it helps reduce the vehicle emissions that are caused by food transportation.

  1. Plant Something

As most of us remember from grade school, photosynthesis is the process in which plants convert carbon dioxide to oxygen, so it’s no surprise that gardening would be a surefire way to promote clean air. If you’re looking to unwind while helping the community, gardening might be just the thing you’ve been looking for!

  1. Reduce Vehicle Emissions

Starting a carpooling route or occasionally commuting via public transit can help promote a cleaner environment while saving you money on fees associated with car maintenance and fuel!

  1. Free Train Tickets

The Los Angeles Metro will be offering commuters free access to their train and bus services this Wednesday, October 6th, in an effort to encourage people to reduce their vehicle emissions.

For more adventurous LA commuters, LA Metro will allow free use of their bike-share program on Wednesday, October 6th, by using the promo code 100621 on their app.
