The Big Sweep is coming up this month! The North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Fall Litter Sweep is scheduled for September 16th through 30th this year. This annual event is one that AHMC fully supports; it is a great event that focuses the state’s attention on the litter program plaguing North Carolina’s roadways.
“North Carolina is a more beautiful place thanks to the thousands of volunteers who donate their time every year,” said Don Lee, state roadside environmental engineer. “We cannot do this alone, and their time and efforts ensure our state is a great place to visit, work and live.”
Last year’s event resulted in over 520,000 pounds of litter removed from local roads and highways, almost as much weight as a Boeing 757-200 airplane.
