Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) is a nonprofit institution that provides pediatric health care for its patients in a setting designed just for their needs. Their history began in 1901 in a small house on the corner of Alpine and Castelar Streets (now called Hill St. in Chinatown). Today, their medical experts offer more than 350 pediatric specialty programs and services for their young patients.
The first and largest pediatric hospital in Southern California, CHLA relies on the generosity of philanthropists in the community to support compassionate patient care, leading-edge education of the caregivers of tomorrow, and innovative research efforts that impact children at their hospital and around the world.
We are very happy to have this institution join the Adopt A Highway® program and sponsor the litter removal along the 101 Freeway in the Los Angeles area. Their continuous efforts improve the commute for the families of their patients and the community.

Designed for Families
Every aspect of our hospital is designed with the care of children in mind. This means that elements of our care, including devices and supplies, are all just the right size for the care of your child. Still, it also means that we have actively planned and designed for the integration of family members and loved ones as part of a child’s recovery.
From baby-sized blood pressure cuffs and diapers for preemies to our special brand of family-centered care, our hospital is just the right size for caring for your infant, child or adolescent. Natural light, a special universally-accessible playground, and gardens are all designed to promote the health and healing of patients.
Family-Centered Care
In 1968, the standard care practice was children were admitted to the hospital, treated, healed, and discharged to the care of their families. Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Mary Dee says, “Medical care has evolved over the past 35 years; we now encourage our parents to participate as an integral part of the healing process. Suppose we support parents by providing facilities for them to be close to their children, an environment in which children and their families can heal and learn together, help them learn about the challenges of the particular illness or injury, and make it easier to manage their lives. In that case, we empower them to be better caregivers, better parents.”
The hospital partners with patients and families to ensure their experiences and feedback shape hospital policy and processes. They understand that the family is the constant in a child’s life and that excellent care supports the entire family.
