Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question about the Adopt A Highway® or Sponsor A Highway® Program? Find answers and other general information quickly in our FAQ's

Who is Adopt A Highway Maintenance Corporation®?

Adopt A Highway Maintenance Corporation® (AHMC) is a privately held business that works with federal, state, and local government organizations on highway sponsorship programs. These programs help keep roadways cleaner while recognizing participating businesses on approved sponsor recognition signs or panels.

What is Sponsor A Highway®?

Sponsor A Highway® is a paid, non-volunteer sponsorship program. AHMC’s professional crews remove litter from the sponsored highway segment, and the sponsor is recognized on an approved sponsor recognition sign or panel under the applicable program.

Who Cleans the Highways?

AHMC’s trained professional crews perform litter removal on behalf of our sponsors.

Can Anybody Sponsor A Highway?

Businesses and organizations may be eligible to sponsor a highway segment, subject to the rules of the applicable program. Pricing and terms vary by market and location. To check eligibility, call 800-200-0003 or request a quote.

What’s Included With Highway Sponsorship?

Pricing and terms vary by market and location. Sponsorship includes professional litter removal along the sponsored segment and an approved sponsor recognition sign or panel. Your quote confirms the services and costs that apply to your location. AHMC coordinates the sponsor recognition panel and applicable program requirements. Sign placement and installation follow the rules and process for that market.

How Much Does It Cost to Sponsor A Highway?

Pricing and terms vary by market and location. Request a quote for the segment you are considering.

How Can I Participate in the Adopt A Highway® Program?

Available sponsorship locations can be taken, so a location that is open today may not remain available. A sponsor keeps its selected location while the sponsorship remains active. To get started, contact an Account Manager at 800-200-0003. Your Account Manager will guide you through the process for the market you are considering.

Where Can I Place My Sign?

AHMC currently offers corporate highway sponsorship opportunities in 25 states, including major cities and metropolitan areas. Availability varies by market and location. Sign placement and installation follow the rules and process for that market, and sponsors do not control exact placement. To explore current locations, visit our Sponsor Markets page or call 800-200-0003.

Can I Sponsor in Multiple States?

AHMC works with sponsors across multiple cities and states. To discuss multi-market sponsorship options and current availability, contact 800-200-0003.

How Long Will My Sponsorship Last?

Sponsorship terms vary by market and agreement. Your agreement sets out the term, included services, and renewal details for your sponsorship. See how segment length and sponsorship term work.

What Are the Benefits of Sponsoring A Highway?

Sponsoring a highway supports cleaner roadsides and can build recognition and familiarity through repeated presence of an approved sponsor recognition sign or panel. AHMC also creates shareable sponsor assets, and after enough meaningful cleanup data has accumulated, eligible sponsors may receive an Impact Infographic showing miles cleaned, bags collected, and pounds of litter removed. For more detail, see our Benefits page.

How does Sponsor A Highway compare to traditional billboard advertising?

Highway sponsorship is not a conventional media buy. A sponsor recognition sign or panel creates repeated roadside presence while funding professional litter removal on the sponsored segment. Pricing and terms vary by market and location. Request a quote for the segment you are considering. For a deeper comparison, see our educational page on sponsorship versus billboards.

Are highway sponsorship costs considered a CSR or marketing expense?

Highway sponsorship can support both brand recognition and community impact. AHMC provides program-based proof assets and, after enough meaningful cleanup data has accumulated, may create sponsor-specific Impact Infographics. AHMC does not provide a formal ESG reporting framework. How the expense is categorized for accounting purposes depends on the sponsor’s own accounting policies and professional advisers.
