With AHMC, your business can sponsor a stretch of Maryland highway without organizing volunteers or sending staff to work beside traffic. You choose where you want to be seen, our professional crews remove litter and debris from your segment, and your company is recognized on a sponsor recognition sign along that stretch of road.

How the Maryland Sponsor-A-Highway Program works

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) runs the Maryland Sponsor-A-Highway Program. It allows companies to sponsor sections of Maryland roadways. As a sponsor, you enter into an agreement with AHMC, and our crews remove trash and debris from your sponsored segment. In return, your company receives a sponsor recognition sign along the segment.

MDOT SHA spends millions of dollars each year removing litter and debris from state roadways. Sponsorship helps keep Maryland highways clean while putting your name in front of the people who drive them every day.

Sponsorship step by step

  1. Tell us where you want to be seen. Share your target areas, routes or customer locations through our Get a Quote form.
  2. Choose your highway segment. We show you the open segments near your locations. Maryland sponsorships are sold in one-mile segments.
  3. Approve your agreement. Your sponsorship agreement is with AHMC, so you have one point of contact from start to finish.
  4. Design your sponsor panel. Our art department works with you on a full-color sponsor recognition panel.
  5. Sign placement. MDOT SHA determines the final sign location along the sponsored segment.
  6. Ongoing cleanup by our crews. AHMC crews remove litter from your segment for the length of your sponsorship.

HIGH-TRAFFIC MARYLAND HIGHWAYS

Reach drivers on Maryland’s busiest roads

Traffic volumes exceed 241,000 vehicles per day on some of Maryland’s busiest highways, such as I-270 in Montgomery County (MDOT SHA, 2025 traffic data). A sponsor recognition sign on a high-traffic segment can be seen by up to hundreds of thousands of drivers and passengers a day. Traffic varies from one segment to another, so ask us about the locations you have in mind.

Maryland sponsor recognition sign

For each segment you sponsor in Maryland, one litter removal sign with your sponsor recognition panel is placed on the shoulder of the highway, facing traffic, within each one-mile segment. MDOT SHA determines the final sign location. The sign is reflective white with black letters and measures 60″ × 48″, with a yellow silhouette of the state of Maryland behind the text and a yellow border. Your sponsor recognition panel measures 40″ × 24″.

Our art department will work closely with you to design your full-color sponsor panel so it’s clear and easy to read.

Signs are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
